As a young man I was blessed to be surrounded by and raised by so many great women. One of those being my Aunt Jude. She seemed always to be happy, smiling, and laughing. I can still hear her laugh now. When I would spend the day at her house we would go for walks through the narrow tree lined streets to a little market and I would get a candy bar. I don’t know if I would get a Watchamacallit because I liked them, or if I would get them because she liked them and therefore I wanted to like them. Regardless it remains to be one of my favorite candy bars on those rare occasions these days when I buy a candy bar. The Hey Jude starts with a delicately crisp base of rice krispies, milk chocolate, cacao nibs, and homemade peanut butter. Then there is a layer of flourless dark chocolate cake, milk chocolate mousse, and soft caramel. The whole cake is sprayed with dark chocolate and topped with more crispy peanut butter rice krispies and roasted salted peanuts. So this dessert pays homage to my Aunt Jude and has nothing to do with some band that wrote a few hits. It also just happens to be gluten free.
